How we walk
the talk

More than certifications, we’re interested in real world change.
Here’s how we’re transforming our industry across three key areas.

Large-scale regenerative farming

Since 2018, we’ve developed an entirely new ecosystem at our regenerative farm in Nicaragua.

What was once barren soil is now a thriving polyculture forest of over 110,000 cacao trees. By combining ancient grafting techniques with carbon capture and state-of-the-art water management technologies, we aim to produce roughly 2,000 kilos of single-variety cacao per hectare, versus the average small farmer’s yield of 400 kg of traditional cacao.

World-first in traceability

Thanks to our fully-integrated approach, we are the first and only chocolate producer who can pinpoint the origin of each batch of cacao beans, down to the people involved in creating it. Just scan the QR code on our packaging to learn more.

Commitment to community

For the past 15 years, we’ve worked with over 150 farmers across Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. They were our original allies in planting our single-variety cacao trees and continue to be our business partners today.

Unlike the “fair trade” model, where buyers only purchase as much cacao as they can sell, we pay for our partner farmers’ entire harvest. This guarantees above-market earnings for partner farmers and collaborators—and frees them of predatory middlemen.

We also support our farmers with a team of onsite technicians who can advise them at every step of the way.

Meet the collective

From our employees and collaborators across Central America to our business team in Europe, everyone at Xoco is a guardian of cacao and a master of their trade.
